YouTube has clarified its monetization rules for videos produced using artificial intelligence, templates, and other automation tools. The platform says that AI use is not prohibited by itself, but the mass production of repetitive and low-quality videos may result in monetization being removed.

YouTube’s inauthentic-content rules now cover repetitive or template-based videos with little variation, material designed to distress or emotionally manipulate viewers, and videos where AI-generated personas discuss sensitive subjects such as healthcare, finance, or legal matters.

Channels publishing too much of this material may be removed from the YouTube Partner Program. The company says the updated guidance is intended to reduce content farming, where large quantities of automated videos are produced mainly to generate advertising revenue.
